Community Theatre Musical
For the past three 3 years, Sock & Buskin, an all-volunteer community theatres, has produced a wide variety of productions including comedies, dramas, thrillers, and mysteries. We have staged full-length plays, one-act plays, staged readings, live radio plays, dinner theatre, a short play showcase, and interactive parties. We aim to engage as much of our talent community (actors, directors, technical staff, etc.) as possible and reach as many audiences as possible – so diversity of offerings is important to us.
Since inception, we have heard from our talent community, volunteers, and patrons that they wish to see us perform a musical. We have held off on this venture because musicals are more expensive and more complex, and we want to be sure that we can produce something that meets the highest quality standards we set for ourselves for every production we commit to. We have decided that 2026 is the year that we can fulfill their wishes. Tentatively, we have selected to produce “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way tTo Tthe Form,” a musical comedy by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. We feel this is the ideal first musical for us based on available talent, technical requirements, comedic style, and audience appeal.
