Animating Albina: Stories of North/Northeast Portl

My project aligns with the Portland Chapter’s mission to make Portland Awesomer by bringing the history and cultural richness of North/Northeast Portland to life through animation. The focus will be the Albina District, highlighting its historical significance, community stories, and artistic legacy. By combining animation with interactive storytelling workshops and collaborative sessions, the project invites residents, local artists, and youth to actively participate, share their memories, and contribute to the narrative. This approach fosters connection, dialogue, and cultural preservation, while creating work that is visually compelling and deeply rooted in Portland’s community.

The project also has a lasting impact beyond the immediate event: the resulting animation will serve as a cultural resource, accessible to schools, local organizations, and the broader public. By engaging multiple disciplines—visual art, performance, storytelling—it brings together diverse voices and encourages ongoing collaboration. Through this project, I aim to strengthen Portland’s creative ecosystem, celebrate local heritage, and provide an inclusive space for learning, reflection, and artistic exploration, making the city a richer, more connected, and vibrant place for all.
