The Fit for Change program is a joint initiative run by PCYC and NSW Police Youth Command. Next term, the program will be hosted at PCYC and will be targeted toward empathy-based learning.
The focus of the program is to teach young people the importance of empathy, communication, and non-violent conflict resolution. Students will learn about the effects of bullying, harassment, and assault, while being guided through practical strategies to manage conflict without violence.
The program runs once a week for 9 weeks and will benefit approximately 8 students intensively. These students will be supported in building lifelong skills that promote positive behaviour and respect for others.
PCYC has $1400 allocated for the entire term, which has so far been used to cover guest speakers, meeting room hire, and food for participants.
Through this grant, we aim to provide practical, engaging, and life-changing learning opportunities that build resilience, respect, and empathy in young people, ultimately reducing the cycle of violence and antisocial behaviour in our community.
