Well, above our soup kitchen is a refugee and asylum seeker support service. (jrs.org.au). Above them is a rooftop that is screaming out to be transformed into a rooftop garden.
There is an accommodation centre next door that houses about 14 asylum seekers. It takes about 5 years for their application to be processed. In this time they cannot work or study and often fall into depression.
Our project is a garden of opportunities, a place of meaningful and familiar activities. A place to allow the asylum seekers to grow food and feed back into our soup kitchen.
