Jefferson Gates

Superchief Arts Club will be serving up a nearly a block’s worth of curated murals in the neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens. This exciting new project involves a collaboration with neighborhood businesses and local artists to create a series of more than 24 garage doors that line the block of Jefferson Avenue where the Superchief Arts Club has been operating a Community Center and Gallery since 2012. The completion of this work will increase pedestrian traffic, drive local commerce and add cultural vibrancy to the community.

Superchief has a history of enabling new and avant garde artists to participate in the larger community. Since 2012, the gallery has been a driving force in the art world, and a venue that promotes emerging forms of art such as GIFs, CGI, and 3D printing, all while uplifting a new generation of visual and performative artists. The Queens space now serves as a community center and an incubator for disparate scenes and collectives.

Recently, the group has become much more active with day-to-day activities open to the community and have found the borough of Queens to be a welcoming place not only to expand its space, but also the scope of what they do. They host events six nights each week for everything from gallery hours to the beautiful, immersive visuals at Bring Your Own Projector Night.

Through all of their ventures, they seek to uphold their mission statement of supporting artists from disparate scenes and collectives, enabling them to participate in the larger community.

September 2018 update from Rachel Kolarik: "So far, we have completed 5 out of the 7 gates for this year's portion of the project - your contribution has aided us in purchasing supplies for the murals by such notable artists as Kristin Liu Wong, Hugo Girl, Kashink, and Boy Kong!"
