The People's Portrait Day

Most people have never had a real professional portrait taken. A good headshot can land the job, the callback, the client. But a session with a real photographer costs more than a lot of working families in LA can spare, so they go without, or they make do with a blurry phone pic.

The People's Portrait Day fixes that, one neighborhood at a time. I'm a professional portrait photographer, and I want to set up for a day in a South LA and Compton community space and give people free, professional portraits. Job seekers who need a headshot. Elders who haven't been photographed with care in years. Families who've never had a proper picture together. Everybody walks out with a high-quality portrait, and I'll put printed copies right in their hands, so they leave with something real, not just a file on a phone.

This one's personal for me. My family has been in LA since the 1940s, and our house in Compton has been in the family since 1952. I've spent 25 years learning how to make people look like the best version of themselves, and I want to point that skill at the folks who never get access to it.

The plan is simple. Partner with a community space like a library, church, or community center. Promote a free portrait day. Set up a real backdrop and proper lighting. Photograph everyone who comes through the door. Each person gets a professional portrait and a print to take home. No cost, no catch, no gatekeeping. Just dignity, made visible.

The $1,000 is what makes it free for every single person who shows up. A small amount of money that turns into a whole community seeing themselves clearly.
