Poughkeepsie Community Fridge

My friends and I, including several who live in the City of Poughkeepsie, started a community fridge in Poughkeepsie to provide free food for residents. Poughkeepsie is a big food desert, and although there are many community fridges throughout the Hudson Valley, we noticed that there wasn’t one in Poughkeepsie. We decided to change this. We worked with many groups and organizations to raise money, find a fridge, and find a location for it. Community Matters 2 generously offered to host our fridge, which we fill weekly with food such as milk, eggs, rice, pasta, and sauce. We were recently featured in the Hudson Valley Press for what we are currently working on: https://hudsonvalleypress.com/2025/11/26/oakwood-students-help-tackle-food-insecurity/
