Myth Reborn
I am a collage artist and I dying to make an ultra large collage that would dance the line between a medieval tapestry and Hieronymus Bosch painting... made completely made out of reclaimed paper. The scope of this piece would be extra large- I am thinking 5 by 8 feet horizontally displayed. The artwork would be created by layering thousands of pieces of paper to create a striking masterpiece. And here comes the twist! I would make this piece entirely out of one magazine subscription using something off of every page in the 12 issues. This is a conceptual technique that I have used to make 9 giant collages, and this AWESOME one would be my 10th! I love using this technique bc it explores concepts of beginnings and endings, finite resources, and the mythical being born from the everyday. The true purpose of making this conceptual piece is to push the boundaries of the medium of paper collage, hopefully inspiring others along the way! With attention on not violating copyright infringement, all images in the work would altered so significantly from their original use, I would not be breaking those rules. The collage would be a wholly unique artwork in its own right. For example; faces and bodies would be spliced and forms would be created using multiple photographs, no image would be overtly used as is. [I am far more interested in the Frankenstein style collage people I make than models anyway!]
The project would be awesome in scale, and awesome to look at! I would love for the work to displayed in San Francisco once it's finished..... Hello De Young? Mosty ideally the work would be created in a gallery or museum space not only for the space but s an opportunity for the work to come to life in real time before patrons. I have always enjoyed sharing my process with the world! I anticipate this work taking one month to make.
