Healthy Neighborhood Gardens

Russ and Katrina Smith submitted an idea to recruit volunteers to build 13 garden boxes and place them in the yards of neighborhood residents. Garden boxes ranged from 8' in length to 10' in length. Veggie starter packs were purchased from French Street Farms, a woman-owned and operated urban farm located in the City of Erie.

Residents who received a box agreed to help tend the gardens during the growing season, while also being open to having fellow neighbors harvest vegetables from the boxes.

This project helps address concerns about the food supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic.
