The Banana Project: Visualising Hearing impairment

INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION "THE BANANA PROJECT"
I am working on the development of my project about sound perception. Inspired by the speech banana term (The speech banana is a region in which all the phonemes of the world's languages fall on an audiogram. An audiogram is a graphical representation of a person's hearing acuity at a range of frequencies and loudness levels.) and my own hearing loss, I would like to create an immersive installation that raises awareness about hearing impairment. The installation will consist of closed space with a hearing test where the audience may take the test and become co-creators of the last stage of the installation. The results of hearing test will be translated to visual output that is displayed on screen/and or printed with a possibility for the audience to take it home. The main idea behind this is that no matter how good or bad your hearing is, all of us can find ways to communicate and perceive art.
The installation will include hand-drawn banana elements and yellow colour, as well as other pleasant, soft , fluffy, acoustic-friendly elements.

What our grantee is saying: "What a nice way to start 2020! I am very grateful to receive this grant that will help me build an interactive installation that focuses on hearing loss and perception. Now I have no excuses to realize this project!"
