About Us

> English below

ABOUT US

Techno Culture Club partners with the Awesome Foundation to revive the Montreal chapter with a new format and team. Such was born POWOP, a seasonal event whose purpose is to power up technocultural projects.

Each season, a micro-giving circle (trustees) contribute to the creation of a grant totally roughly $1,000 (*) in order to help an awesome project to be realized. This amount is given directly to the holders of the winning project, with no strings attached.

If you have an awesome project, and you have specific financial needs in order to make it happen, take a few minutes to submit your project. We look forward to reading your submissions.

(*) The grant amount may vary depending on the number of trustees, but our aim is keep it above $1000. The exact amount will be announced before each edition.

How does it work?

  1. Submit your extraordinary project using the online grant application form.
  2. The organizing committee will pre-select 8 awesome projects according to the established selection criteria.
  3. The project holders, for the pre-selected projects, will pitch their project to the community during the evening gatherings.
  4. During the event, the winning project is selected by popular vote of the audience.
  5. Project is realized!

Criteria

We welcome all sorts of projects, including for example, those in the realm of:

  • tactical urbanism and social innovation
  • tech for good and low-tech hacks
  • connected neighbours and resilient cities
  • interactive installations and creative story-telling
  • data wizardy and open-source toolkits

More specifically, we encourage projects:

  • which are collaborative and inter-discplinary
  • which benefit the technocultural community
  • which are in development (and more real than an idea)
  • which are quick to implement (ideally within 3 months and prior to the subsequent POWOP)
  • for which the grant will have a significant impact on the project’s budget
