<title>Santa Cruz, CA – Sensory Mural for Mar Vista Elementary</title>
<content type="html">This year, Mar Vista's brand new Green Team received an Ocean Guardian's grant. The funding included money towards a "sensory art path" that would lead from an existing butterfly mural to a new native plant and Life Lab garden.

The garden is hard to see from the campus, and the sensory path would bring attention to it, literally leading students to its gate while educating them about native plants and pollinators.

We are working with local SPECTRA artist Martina Goulart to collaborate with students to create the 135-foot path and make it a part of the Mar Vista campus. Funding will be used to augment the Ocean Guardian's grant and make the path happen. </content>

My project is called the ROAR Initiative (Reach Out At Recess) which will help improve inclusivity and reduce negative behaviors on the playground. This multistep process will provide the following to 5 elementary schools:
Installation of 5 buddy benches
Refinishing benches at the school playgrounds that are in a state of disrepair
Purchasing and installing black top games for black top only recess
Purchasing and installing a Peace Path to help to improve conflict resolution for playground disputes.
Purchasing board games for indoor recess that promote fellowship, inclusivity and group play.
Assist in hosting a “Community Day” for volunteers to assist in the painting the blacktop games at each school
Assist in hosting an Opening Day where high school students visit the elementary schools to teach them about the new equipment and improve interactions between younger and older students. </content>

    <title>Sydney – WWYW Survivor Healing Groups</title>
<content type="html">A group of 12 to 15 victim-survivors that meet together monthly and learn about ways to heal from sexual violence. WWYW’s groups are conducted within a safe peer-support environment and are facilitated by two experienced professionals. The facilitators create a safe environment for recovery with clear rules and guidelines for the peer-group to ensure appropriate conduct and confidentiality.

The aim is to be an open and safe space for survivors of sexual violence to come together and to connect with others with similar experiences and leave with gained knowledge and tools for healing and recovery.

Each session will be run by a trauma informed facilitator, a counsellor/psychologist and no group will run if a counsellor/psychologist is not present. The role of the counsellor/psychologist is to monitor the group, step in if needed and provide one on one support if any participants become triggered or overwhelmed. The group is totally free of charge and currently running in Newcastle where we have our grass roots, however we are looking to expand into Sydney and other cities in line with the expansion of our organisation.

These groups are significantly important for the community because there is currently very little sexual violence support groups in the area (especially free ones). Multiple sexual assault services have found that a particular successful method of working with survivors of sexual assault and trauma is by bringing survivors together in groups. Groups are an effective tool in providing support, validation, connection, healing, empathy and giving hope.

It will create safe spaces for victims who really need the community to not feel isolated and alone, whilst also helping them find ways to manage the emotions and trauma that comes post experience of violence. Expanding these services into Sydney will also allow us to spread our voice into the city, raising awareness of our other services and work (including upcoming drink spiking education to venues) that will make Sydney a safer area for all on nights out. #awesome for all!

Unfortunately pics of the groups are unavailable due to confidentiality however please see some of the other amazing work we have done!</content>

    <title>Utrecht – Serenades bij 100-jarigen</title>
</content>

<title>San Francisco, CA – Rock and Roll Middle School</title>
    <content type="html">HI!

I'm a science teacher. I don't do art or music or dance. I'm a strange fit to lead an arts program, But my students crave ARTS! I work at a tiny middle school - only 99 kids. We are a public school - so we have a huge diversity of students. We're tiny, so I know EVERYONE - and in my 3 years here I've seen a big difference between the kids that have extra cash to take fancy arts classes and the students that just don't have that cash. Arts training gives kids self esteem, focus and motivation.
That's not fair. My broke students should get all that training in dance, arts, music, circus and ALL the things!!
So I started an arts program here. It's AMAZING. We changed our bell schedule to have dedicated time 4 days a week IN SCHOOL for ALL STUDENTS to do the arts. However, it's a public school funded by low per-pupil funding and we only have credentialed arts teachers 2 days a week.
That means for 2 days a week, each mainstream core teacher is filling in with the arts that we can teach. As a scientist, I started a cooking class - because cooking is similar to chemistry and I feel comfortable there. The PE teacher is teaching Dance. Etc - We are mostly staffed up - The problem is, I need funding to pay some musicians.
Last year we had a staff member taught guitar/ukulele and fundraised for guitars and ukuleles. The kids LOVED IT! Their attendance improved! They bonded with kids that weren't their friends before! They built more self-esteem!

Sadly, that teacher left our school, and broke our hearts. Thankfully he left us with all of the guitars and ukuleles. In order to use these resources, I want to hire a guitar/ ukulele teacher to come and teach a bunch of really cool (and very awkward because they are young teens) middle schoolers.
Please give me, or the Parent's Action Committee at my school 1000$ to pay a local artist to come in and teach guitar to our young teens?

    <title>San Francisco, CA – The Fourth</title>
<content type="html">I am writing a book, based on my own experience, about a post partum woman who is being haunted. It is a book about Jamaican ancestry and folklore, matriarchal lineage and the things we leave our children. My post partum journey was lonely and maddening, it also made me analyze my relationship with my own mother, which led me to the fledging manuscript I am working on. My father is Jamaican and this writing journey has lead me to all sorts of research that is necessary for me to tell this story that is for and by the Jamaican Diaspora. Many of the books my local library has on my subjects are by white men, and in order to find the ones actually written by Black people, I have to purchase them myself. This project has blossomed in ways I could not possibly imagined, and if lucky enough to be awarded, I would take this grant as more of a loan because the minute I am able to sell this book, I will pay it forward to the next Bay Area writer in need.</content>

<title>Newburgh, NY – Presenting Holiday Springs &amp; Sprockets in Newburgh</title>
<content type="html">With the support of the Awesome Newburgh Foundation, I want to present the "Holiday Springs and Sprockets" by Steve Gerberich in Newburgh November 16 to January 26, Friday and Saturday, 12pm to 5pm. This kinetic-art exhibition will have FIVE large, holiday-themed mechanical sculptures that were created from an assortment of recycled materials, including old machine parts to kitchen utensils, pieces of furniture and old toys. Gerberich will activate the iconic Saving Bank Building at 94 Broadway and host a free art exhibition for four months, host three children’s workshops and rigorously invite locals and visitors to access arts and enjoy themselves in downtown Newburgh. Gerberich will illuminate the downtown figuratively and literally.

One example of the five-part Holiday Springs and Sprockets is eight flying reindeer pull Santa in his sleigh. The animals' legs move via their attachment to exercise bicycles (with bells on their spokes), and their antlers are bicycle handlebars. Rudolph has a glowing red nose and wears sparkly red Converse shoes. In addition to the fantastical sight of repurposed salvaged items coming to life, Gerberich will be encouraging visitors to do their own art.

Gerberich will host three Children’s Workshops where he will inspire and direct willing participants to sculpt their own mini-masterpiece from a smorgasbord of parts collected during Gerberich’s nationwide travels culled from surplus everyday objects, thrift shops, and dollar stores. Handmade sculptures will be assembled using hot glue “welding.” Projected dates are Saturday November 25 (Newburgh Shop Small Business), December 2 (Historical Society’s Candlelight Tour) and December 9.

Funds are necessary as early as the end of September. Gerberich will open his workspace in Atlas Studios during Newburgh Open Studios and inform the 2,000 visitors. In early October, Gerberich will coordinate transportation, installation, volunteer recruitment, and exhibition marketing</content>

    <title>Adelaide – Kaurna Yerta - The Seasons</title>
<content type="html">The Bowerbird Collective is premiering a new performance at the Nature Festival SA in October which explores the Kaurna seasons. Produced collaboratively by myself and Anthony Albrecht of the Bowerbird Collective alongside Jamie Goldsmith and Taikurtinna Dance Group, the project is being guided by Kaurna Elders Aunty Lynette Crocker and Uncle Jeffrey Newchurch. This one-hour cinematic concert features stunning visuals, immersive soundscapes, song, dance and ceremony, as well as new music for string quintet and traditional instruments by David John Lang. We think it will be an unmissable, sacred celebration of culture in harmony with nature.

We already have some funding support from Arts SA and the Australia Council, however to meet the Elders' ambition of two performances, one at Marion on October 14 and one in the CBD on October 15, we need all the help we can get. Both performances will be free to the public (with optional donation) to make them as accessible as possible. This project is a celebration of cultural collaboration at a time of division in the community caused by the referendum. We are thrilled to present this project to the Adelaide community, and intend for it to tour around the country at a later stage.</content>

<title>San Antonio, TX – Operation Shoes for Soldiers </title>
<content type="html">My awesome project is called Shoes for Soldiers. My primary mission is to provide new or gently used shoes to our community’s homeless veterans. My secondary mission is to provide socks as they’re donated. After asking the veteran’s homeless shelter what they needed most, I was told that shoes are desperately needed. They have a little over 100 residents and shoes will help them tremendously. Besides the shelter’s residents, there are also low-income veterans in the community that need shoes, so I would eventually like to help them as well. I’m currently in partnership with some local businesses and organizations to collect new or gently used shoes. I’m doing this by setting up shoe collection points at these locations and asking for donations. I just started this project in July and I’ve already collected just over 70 pairs of shoes. This project will be on-going and I will conduct shoe drives and make drop-offs at least once per month. </content>

    <title>Gloucester, MA – Gloucester Transition Program...at your service!</title>
<content type="html">The Gloucester Transition Program is the Gloucester Public Schools' personalized, community-based program for 18-22 year-olds who have completed high school, and remain eligible for special education support. Participants focus on training, daily living skills, and employment opportunities to ease their transition to adulthood.

The 2022-2023 year in the Transition Program was filled with tremendous individual growth, determination, generosity, joy, creativity, collaboration, self-advocacy, and accomplishment.

In addition to paid employment positions; our team worked together to build job skills while donating our services to improve the Gloucester community!
Collectively, we:
- Organized 4 major events, hosting a total of 134 community members
- Made 78 delicious thank you gifts
- Provided 1,260 hours of clerical support and meal service at the Gloucester Preschool; including the distribution of 6,042 student breakfasts and 7,632 student lunches
- Redirected 15 pounds of food waste to the animals at Marshall’s Farm
- Volunteered 50 hours of clerical and event support at the Rose Baker Senior Citizens Center
- Invested 75 hours in the mission of the GHS Food Locker by restocking their shelves
- Contributed 45 hours weighing and bagging vegetables at Open Door for Gloucester’s food insecure residents
- Gave 315 hours of retail service at the Second Glance Thrift Store
- Delivered 6,256 free newspapers to GHS classrooms
- Collected and gave 32 boxes of used newspapers to Cape Ann Animal Aid

Those experiences gave our participants a chance to know Gloucester. Now, we want Gloucester to get to know our participants! We are applying for this grant to purchase work shirts for our participants that include the participant's name and the Gloucester Transition Program logo, By providing our volunteer crew a consistent, professional uniform, the Gloucester community will come to know our participants by name, and recognize their professional dedication and work ethic.</content>

<title>Disability – The Autistic People of Color Fund</title>
<content type="html">We are the only organization led 100% by and for autistic BIPOC committed to advancing community mutual aid and systemic change with a unique focus on disability justice, economic justice, and racial justice. We work as one of the only disability activism organizations with a nonhierarchical, collective decision-making, and horizontal structure, and are planning a long-term transition away from the founder-led model to a worker-managed, self-directed nonprofit structure. This structure and our commitments give us a unique position at the nexus of informal mutual aid projects, community organizing campaigns, and public policy and research-oriented systems change work, which few organizations are able to do even with larger staffs. Additionally, we foster numerous partnerships to support interns and fellows through many different programs to build capacity for the future of the autistic and broader disabled BIPOC community, and benefit from expertise and lived experience in many sectors. We stay in community and partnership with former staff, partners, and fellows, which enables us to sustain critical relationships across our community. We are also well known across the disability rights and disability justice communities, and thrived for the first four years of our existence solely on widespread community support in small dollar and larger donations.

The Fund has given nearly $300,000 in individual microgrants (up to $500) to autistic people of color. We are currently publishing a series of community-informed policy and research briefs on topics of importance to autistic people of color, as well as building a leadership and movement building fellowship program to support emerging and established disabled BIPOC leaders seeking to replicate our model.

**What our grantee is saying:** “The Autistic People of Color Fund has always been a labor of radical love and community care. We are so grateful and honored to be chosen for this support from the Awesome Foundation Disability Chapter to help us take care of each other. As a small, truly grassroots organization, we rely on community support to keep going. This grant will support our commitment to sustainability in how we do the work.”</content>

<title>Chicago, IL – Bike Carrier Trailer for Orchard Village Bike Club</title>
<content type="html">Founded in 1972, Orchard Village each year serves 300 men, women, and children with developmental disabilities, most of whom are living below the national poverty level. A very popular service of ours is our recreational therapy program.
Many of our participants have a goal in mind when beginning recreational therapy services, such as learning how to ride a bike. Orchard Village currently owns four accessible bikes, one recumbent bike, and three upright three-wheeled adult bikes. These bikes allow our participants to learn how to ride a bike, something not afforded to them without access to handicap-friendly bicycles.
With so many participants achieving their goal of learning to ride a bike, our recreational therapist created a biking club. However, without a bike carrier trailer to transport these bicycles, our bike club is unable to travel very far from our campus.

Acquiring a bike carrier trailer will allow our bike club to explore the beautiful bike paths in and around Skokie and maintain their newfound bike-riding skills. </content>

<title>State College, PA – Happy Valley Latin Fest</title>
<content type="html">The Happy Valley Latin Festival is a one-day community event that brings together Latin music, food, and art &amp; crafts vendors showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of the Latinx/Hispanic culture in Central Pennsylvania. The event is open to the public and family-friendly and it is made possible with the help of sponsors and volunteers. The festival will take place on October 7th at the MLK plaza. This is the third year of the festival. A non-profit organization. Latin Vibe, was recently formed with a broader vision to host cultural community events. The festival will be one of the events in the future. At this time, the festival still relies heavily in individual sponsorships and it would be great if we could have 3 Dots be a sponsor of the event. This event showcases how we are all part of the Centre County community and people from other parts of the world can feel at home. </content>

    <title>Melbourne (Inactief) – Five Oh Five</title>
<content type="html">From the grant recipient, Maya:

"My project, Five Oh Five, is to develop a perfume range using predominately Australian Native scents as ethically and organically as possible.
I have been making candles and room sprays and other things with my Mum's support for a couple of years.
Recently I became quite addicted to perfume but natural and unique scents that are quite expensive. They create such a happy sensory place for me to help me cope with environments outside of my home,
A month ago my mum purchased all that I needed to get started to experiment making my own blends. Now everywhere I go people are asking me what my perfume is, I proudly say Kakadu Plum, I made it, or whatever other scent I may have made.
As I am approaching 15, most of the people my age are looking for part-time jobs around school. For me, that isn't possible. But a business I can manage from home.
The perfumes will be unique and promote the amazing and unique scents of the Australian native landscape, others will incorporate my mother's culture: Dutch.
The perfumes will have blends that require lower fragrance load and longer lasting base notes so it impacts sensitive people less. Our whole community is disabled and many people are very sensitive to perfumes, and fragrances and it has a significant impact on them if it's not harmonious, it's a negative one. Having lower loads and native fragrances reduces the risk of negative impacts.
I have the benefit of my mum who has been working with Aromatherapy for over 30 years and my brother who is an analytical chemist to help me do all the formulations and planning.
I have sourced all local businesses for our supplies from glassware to ingredients to ensure our carbon footprint is minimal to zero.
My business is named after an Arctic Monkeys song, It is the bus that takes me from my front door into the world and the time I was born."</content>

    <title>Ottawa – SlutWalk Ottawa 2023</title>
<content type="html">August’s Awesome Ottawa award goes to Julia Winterhalder and the Purple Sisters Youth Advisory to support SlutWalk Ottawa 2023.

“SlutWalk is a movement of protest which aims to end rape culture and sexual violence,” explains Julia. “The goal of the protest is to move towards eliminating a culture of victim-blaming and sex-shaming in our society, and to empower and inspire survivors. It raises awareness that no matter what someone is wearing, it is never the survivor's fault.”

SlutWalk started in Toronto in 2011, after a police officer told students at York University that if women wanted to avoid rape they should not dress like sluts.

This year’s SlutWalk Ottawa will be focused on the theme of bodily autonomy. “With reproductive rights and transgender healthcare being increasingly at risk,” says Julia, “we want to open the SlutWalk space to more intersectional feminist issues. We will be encouraging speakers from these areas, and those wishing to discuss the traditional SlutWalk themes, to share their stories and perspectives. In addition to making posters beforehand, we will also be hosting a chalking session as the event concludes, where participants will be able to decorate the area with their messages. We are hoping that in doing so, not only are participants more able to create community, but leave a more lasting impact.”

The event will take place on Sunday, September 10, from 12:30-4:30 PM, starting from the Human Rights Monument at Elgin and Lisgar. There is no need to sign up, but organizers suggest bringing a poster and a friend.

“SlutWalk is more than a march,” adds Julia. “It is an opportunity for community building, storytelling, and challenging the patriarchal status quo.”

Julia is an undergraduate student in international development, gender, sexuality, feminism, and social justice. The Purple Sisters are a group of young feminists who work to empower young women and gender diverse people from all backgrounds, regardless of class, race, sexual orientation, religion, or ability.</content>

<title>Washington, DC – Introducing: the mobile law library!</title>
<content type="html">Did you know that there are only three law libraries open to members of the public in Washington, DC, and none of them are designed to serve non-lawyers? We are going to bring the law library to the communities that need it the most by setting up a reference desk outside public libraries and parks and at community events throughout the District. You might be thinking this is a bit too ambitious for a $1000 grant, and you’re right! We share more specifics about the $1000 below, but here I will explain how this project fits into our broader plans as an organization.

Where we are now: our organization is less than two years old, and is run entirely by volunteers. We provide law library services online two to four hours a day through our virtual reference desk.

Where we want to be: when we are financially sustainable, we will have paid staff providing law library services up to 12 hours a day both online through our virtual reference desk and in person on a bookmobile.

How this project fits in: this project will bring us into the community to provide reference service in person. This grant won’t give us the ability to provide the consistency in service that our long-term plans anticipate, but by introducing ourselves to our neighbors and providing information about how to get service from us online, we will be able to reach more people, which is both critical to our mission and to giving our organization a record of performance that will help us get additional funding. Our goal from the start has been to bring the law library to residents; indeed it was a brainstorm about basing our library on a bookmobile that gave us the final push to establish JusticeAccess. </content>

<title>Glasgow – Accessible Cycling for Wheelchair Users </title>
<content type="html">Spina bifida is a fault in the spine which develops in early pregnancy. Currently, 1 in 1,000 pregnancies in Scotland are affected. Most babies born with the disability will be paralysed from the waist down, be affected by bowel and bladder complications and will be lifelong wheelchair users. In addition, around 80% of those affected will also have hydrocephalus. This complex condition is a build-up of fluid which causes increased pressure on the brain. Children and young people born with the disability(s) will require lifelong support and have multiple complex support needs.

We would be grateful to receive a donation of £500 from the Awesome Foundation to fund accessible sports days for children and young people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus whose families may not be able to afford it otherwise due to financial constraints. Financial strain can lead to isolation for people experiencing it which in turns leads to a reduction in confidence, self-esteem and independence. This isolation for children and young people is also added to by feeling different from their peers and not having people around them who relate to their situation. In addition, many of our families do not have access to accessible greenspaces. These sport outings will provide an opportunity for our children and young people to experience something new, meet new people who have similar experiences to them, develop new skills, enjoy the outdoors and get active, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Furthermore, many children and young people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus do not have confidence to try new activities in the wider community due to specialised needs i.e. shunt, continence and mobility issues. The accessible sport activities are run by experts who know how to support people with complex needs and SBH Scotland will work with facilitators to ensure all specialised needs are met. </content>

The project is led by a steering committee (nine total volunteers who mainly run the books to prisoners end of the project) and the magazine editorial committee which is specifically led by impacted young people (two of the programming leads are formerly incarcerated themselves). </content>

    <title>Pittsburgh, PA – Video Art Pop-up!</title>
<content type="html">Third Floor Window exists as a nontraditional art space that presents contemporary video art in an accessible format. By looking up, a curious neighbor, dog walker, and restaurant-goer can all be enchanted by a glowing window. One quick view can instill joy and healthy questioning as the artwork presents different visual scenarios -- ranging from a cake-obsessed werewolf to a compilation of flowers in bloom. Curating one artist a weekend, on loop, every Friday and Saturday evening. The window faces a brewery, restaurant, and shop, all of which attract residents to look up and engage with the art.

The goal is to now create a pop-up version of the Third Floor Window in various locations. In spaces that are easily accessible by the community, like a neighborhood garden or on a brewery wall, there is an opportunity to have a pop-up art cinema, a space that is for everyone. The current focus is a pop-up in Mt. Lebanon; on the main road is a parklet where families relax after dinner with ice cream. This park is an accessible point for residents to enjoy and engage with video art. "Third Floor Window Pop-up Cinema" would allow emerging artists to showcase their work outside a gallery setting and expose the community to video art.</content>

<title>Awesome Without Borders (Inactief) – Loose Ends Project</title>
<content type="html">When a crafter dies mid-project, or is no longer able to do handwork due to disability or illness, they will likely have unfinished items they were making for friends and family. These tangible, handmade expressions of love could get lost, donated away, or thrown out. We match unfinished projects to volunteer finishers who complete and return the garments, blankets, &amp; accessories, to their loved ones. Since we started less than a year ago, we have recruited 12,000+ volunteer “finishers” from around the globe ready to share their skills with strangers. More than 1,000 projects have been connected to local volunteers for completion.

Loose Ends aims to ease grief, create community, and inspire generosity that transcends social and political boundaries by connecting strangers bound by a shared experience in handwork.

Handworkers are passionate about making, with most creations being a gift for a loved one. An object can take hundreds of hours.

When a maker starts a project, they rarely plan on how it would get completed if they were unable to finish it. No one wants to envision that scenario, yet it is common. For the intended recipient, who is often not skilled in the craft, and in the midst of mourning, they are left with the challenge of what to do. It is too sentimental to discard but they don’t know where to turn. This is not a service for hire, it is a labor of love.

Loose Ends addresses this need.

It benefits both the bereaved and the finisher. There is a shared sense of completion, an act of goodwill for the giver and the receiver. It is often an emotional, in-person exchange of the completed project, in a public place, creating a larger sense of community.

    <title>Orlando, FL – Love is Love </title>
<content type="html"> Artist Corie Mattie aka "LA Hope Dealer" resided for several years in Thornton Park. It was during this time that Corie began questioning her sexuality and in this community and during those times, she felt safe to do so. Embracing her hew new-found confidence of who she was and coming out as a Lesbian she then moved out to LA and became a successful street artist.
Since than the political climate regarding one's freedom of choice in their own sexuality has changed for the worse. Corie watching from afar felt helpless and enraged that this city that she once felt so safe in to discover who she was, no longer felt safe to others going through the same journey.
Reaching out through a mutual friend to one of our Board Members, Corie introduced herself and said she needed to do something to make her voice heard, and to give courage to others who may be feeling fear to show their true selves in our city. Corie flew herself out, paid for all her expenses and painted the first mural on the side of The 808 building. The mural is in a 1950's style which represents that we are unfortunately going back to more restrictive times.
We are having Corie come back to Orlando and finish with the second mural that will continue in the same style with a straight couple in the middle and two same sex couples on either side. We are hoping that this mural will bring hope and unity to the community and perhaps courage to those who see it to show the world their true selves.

Our organization is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and other potent opioids, as well as equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to prevent overdose incidents. We offer overdose prevention training programs that educate participants on recognizing the signs of an overdose, providing timely intervention through naloxone administration (Narcan), and accessing emergency medical services. Additionally, we strive to reduce the harm associated with drug use by promoting harm reduction strategies, such as safe substance use practices, testing drugs and linkage to recovery support. Through our efforts, we aim to save lives, empower individuals, and contribute to a safer and healthier community. </content>

<title>Brumadinho (Inactief) – Pintura da Casa de Suzana</title>

cursos de capacitação em cerâmica e culinária;
aulas de teatro para adolescentes;
atividades físicas para terceira idade;
feirinha de produtos artesanais feitos por moradores da região;

    <title>Cass Clay – The Omega Project </title>
<content type="html">I have been creating kaleidoscopes for 35 years and have achieved a certain amount of success and notoriety in the process. The Omega project is to achieve a dream and create the finest scope that I have ever created.
I plan on creating a table top or "parlor" scope that will have an extremely large oil filled object chamber that will contain the lamp worked glass and other objects that will provide the color for the mandela pattern. The object chamber will be turned by way of a geared mechanism. The mirror chamber will contain two front surface mirrors will will be configured to produce an eight pointed mandela pattern. The body of the scope and object chamber will all be made of polished stainless steel.
When it is completed it should be a very fine instrument.
Costs associated with making larger kaleidoscope projects has always been on the expensive side but recently stainless steel prices have gone up drastically.
I estimate the materials and machining costs for this project will easily reach or exceed $5000. This is not insurmountable but the first stage of the project is the most expensive stage and I am currently stymied by the cost of the first stage. If I can just get the first batch of stainless steel and arrange some machining this project will take flight and I am confident that I can piece together financing as necessary to complete this scope.e i
I have some of the materials already and have a good working relationship with a neighbor to do the machining that is beyond my capabilities.
One way or another this project is a dream of mine and I'm going to make it happen. This scope needs to be made and I'm going to make it.
It would just be awesome if I had some help. </content>

<title>Awesome Without Borders (Inactief) – Youth Robotics Summer Program in Holguin, Cuba</title>
<content type="html">From July 29th to August 12th I will be running a youth robotics education program in the province of Holguin, Cuba. This two week program will introduce young Cubans to computer science, robotics, and engineering topics. My aim is to give students in Cuba the opportunity to learn about a field which is largely non-existent in Cuba. Due to the current economic and political situation in Cuba, basic necessities are extremely hard to come by. As is only natural, living essentials have been prioritized, however this has come at the cost of other crucial but often overlooked needs of the Cuban youth. Even before the current economic and humanitarian crisis in Cuba, access to technology, let alone technology-related education has been severely limited. I hope to fill this gap for a group of 15 students in Holguin this summer. I am coordinating and teaching this program with a local official, Maria Yi, and a family friend in the US, Fran Bradley. Fran has been working on installing water filtration systems in Cuba, with Maria Yi, for the past 40 years. They are both very experienced with the complications of running humanitarian programs in Cuba and have been advising me during the process of planning this program, and will continue to support it once I am physically in Holguin. Some of the important mechanical and electrical concepts that I plan on teaching the students will be done with lego robots. Throughout the two week program I will be teaching them the fundamentals of sensors, actuators, and programming. Hopefully by the end they will be able to make their own creations with their newfound engineering knowledge. I have been informed that Maria's nine year old son, Jesús, is a huge fan of Legos but sadly due to the situation in Cuba, his passion is quite limited. Jesús and other children in the community are eagerly awaiting the program, so I hope to make it a unique and enjoyable experience for them. </content>

    <title>Adelaide – Our Stories of Local Food</title>
<content type="html">The SA Urban Food Network is a community with a shared vision for a regenerative, resilient and equitable local food system. We aim to act as a critical conduit and connector between food system stakeholders and within the community to facilitate building of skills, ideas and connections. With these foundations, we are able to support and amplify projects that strive to shift the local food system across community, industry, academia and government towards resilience, sustainability, and equity. This takes the form of workshops, microgrants, case study publication, online engagement, discussion groups, industry mentorship programs, academic research, and large community events.

One significant element of our organisation’s work is our annual Stories of Local Food flagship event. These funds will allow us to deliver a powerful event for the local community that showcases ten inspiring local food initiatives, and allows attendees to hear the stories, challenges and aspirations of these projects. Funds will allow us to provide locally and ethically sourced event catering, a Welcome to Country, thankyou gifts for our speakers, subsidised ticketing options, and promotional materials at the event and for use in outreach to maximise attendance.

This event allows the sharing of stories, but also acts as a catalyst to inspire and empower members of the community to pursue their own passions and goals within the food system. Attendees can meet and have discussions with speakers and fellow community members, and through this event build and strengthen the connections that are essential in continuing to make Adelaide a hotspot for the creation of innovative food system projects. As a result, community members can go forward to build food projects that foster strong, connected local communities, appreciation for diverse food cultures, mental and physical wellbeing, local economic resilience, and environmental health in biodiversity and climate adaptability.</content>

<title>St. Paul, MN – The Saint Paul Tool Library is Here</title>
<content type="html">AwesomeStPaul is proud to announce our 21st grant has been awarded to The St. Paul branch of the Minnesota Tool Library. We chose the tool lending library for its work in building community by bringing St. Paul neighbors together around shared interests in woodworking and home and garden DIY projects. Congratulations!

In the words of Bruce Willey, "The Saint Paul branch of the Minnesota Tool Library (MTL) recently moved to a new location. MTL provides tools and instructions on how to use them, a shop space with larger machinery, and frequent classes to anyone who joins. Having access to these tools and the knowledge to use them can vastly improve lives. With our construction tools, damaged stairs can be repaired and made safe. Bannisters and grab bars can be installed so older people can stay in their homes. Houses can be insulated and weatherized, saving energy costs. Doors and windows can be repaired or upgraded to prevent theft. With our gardening tools, ladders and scaffolding, yard and exterior work can be done to enhance the look and value of a home or business.
The cost of tools prevents many from performing these worthwhile activities. MTL allows people to extend their home or business repair budget significantly and get more done for less. We help the environment through fewer tools being discarded in landfills or produced and transported in the first place. A community that has a tool library - and makes use of it - is a stronger and more resilient one. Property values are maintained or improved. Fewer buildings are declared unfit for occupancy or even condemned. Our tools are almost all donated and our branches are staffed largely by volunteers. People feel a better sense of community when they know this valuable resource is being supplied by their neighbors." </content>

<title>Gloucester, MA – The Homer Mural on Maplewood Avenue</title>
<content type="html">Awesome Gloucester has partnered with Studio Fresh and Cape Ann Auction to create original public art to honor and celebrate local culture in Gloucester. The mural is a faithful rendering of Winslow Homer's 1874 painting "The Flirt.'

‘The Flirt’ depicts an older man and four boys sailing a catboat in the harbor of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The fishing boat, cleaves through the sea waves, bending to the wind. The tiller and sheet are operated by the older man whilst the young boys recline on the deck looking at the sea. The boy perched at the rear looks out towards the horizon and seagulls in the distance. The name of the boat 'The Flirt' is painted on the rear of the boat.

In addition to grant money contributed by Awesome Gloucester, additional funds were contributed by individual Trustees of Awesome Gloucester who elected to make additional contributions. Additionally, Awesome Gloucester received a $5000 grant from ECCF for the project. In total $10,00 was raised make the mural a reality.</content>

<title>Seattle, WA – "Gadugi" Cherokee Language Coloring Book </title>
<content type="html">I began working on the "Gadugi" Cherokee Language Coloring Book as a way to teach my daughter our ancestral language. I am a citizen of Cherokee Nation that lives in Edmonds, Wa which is over 2000 miles from our Reservation and even farther from our ancestral lands in the Southeast. One of the issues regarding language preservation is access to learning materials. When I began sharing the images with other language learners as well as the children at my daughter's school in Shoreline, there was an instant joyful and awesome enthusiasm to color and chat about how our language interconnects with our plant and animal ancestors. It provides not only a language lesson but an insight into our indigenous cultural understanding of the earth. I have a few more pages to go and would love to publish and distribute! The word "Gadugi" means something akin to working together and sharing for the greater good. It is central to Cherokee language and spiritual and cultural beliefs. Many of our words have multiple meanings which I show in the drawings and are associated with traditional stories. If possible, I would add a story page on the opposite side of each coloring page to deepen the meanings. </content>

<title>Awesome Without Borders (Inactief) – Shedalow Ironworks, LLC</title>
<content type="html">I am a blacksmith artist who creates hand forged ornamental ironwork. This year I have reassembled my shop in my family's new home in Silver City, New Mexico and am thrilled to have become part of the local artist community. I am a member of the Grant County Art Guild where my work is shown and where I advertise availability for commission projects.

After completing a four year apprenticeship in a blacksmith shop in rural WV, I started my own business. I started doing art shows and accepting commission work then. I had the privilege of being hired to design and make a number of interesting, challenging pieces. But my wife and I were not experienced in running a business, and learned some hard financial lessons. So we closed shop to regroup and moved to a new place.

This time around, we attended a small business class and have taken advantage of the information available through a local university assisting new small business owners.

Blacksmithing is quite unique, a trade that threatens to be forgotten. I am genuinely thrilled to see the work of other blacksmith artists and have enjoyed demonstrating for adults and children at art shows. It's a fascinating process. I have been hand forging metal for fifteen years now, and I am still in the honeymoon stage, in awe of the possibilities of my craft,

I work out of a modest building that was gifted to us by our neighbor, A pole barn that has been converted to meet our needs. Inside I use the forge my wife's father built, an anvil that belonged to his father, and hundreds of other tools bought, found, traded and handmade. Someday, we intend to expand, but now we have enough to make this project happen.</content>

<title>Austin, TX – Editing equipment for Elementary School Newscast</title>
<content type="html">The Jaguar News Broadcast is written, directed and produced by elementary school students at Barbara Jordan Early College Prep Elementary. The trilingual multicultural student news production covers campus news and current events at the school.

By bringing together students of all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, the production brings out the AWESOME in students. And thus far, they've been able to do it all using students' personal phones and a donated laptop with missing keys.

A $1000 grant from the Austin Awesome Foundation will give the students a much-needed upgrade. A new computer and editing equipment will allow these budding journalists to record and edit interviews more swiftly, accurately and professionally, teaching them valuable skills along the way.</content>

<content type="html">Buenas Vibras is a Free Monthly First Friday event, in downtown Santa Cruz. The intention of this event is to bring diverse communities together by providing a welcoming, inclusive space. We play Latin &amp; World music for 4 hours providing a free dance party that draws from many diverse groups within Santa Cruz. We often include a birthday celebration for anyone in the community who is celebrating their birthday but doesn't have adequate space to throw their own party at home. We even provide a birthday cake and sing to our birthday guests!

We would like to be able to keep this project free or donation based, so funds will be used to pay for sound equipment rental and to also pay our DJs and artists for their time and effort setting up/breaking down, hosting, and DJing the event. We believe artists need to be compensated for their work in the community and we want to make sure they can pay their bills and thrive in the current economic situation.</content>

    <title>Newburgh, NY – Terrain Biennial Newburgh 2023</title>
<content type="html">Terrain Biennial Newburgh is a grassroots exhibition of public art installations by artists and hosted by Newburgh residents and businesses on front yards, porches, windows, and building facades throughout the city, free and accessible to all who pass by. Artists and hosts work together to display artworks in everyday spaces where it is most visible and least expected. The 2023 exhibition opens during Newburgh OPEN Studios, September 30 + October 1, and runs through November 15.

The Newburgh exhibition is part of the international Terrain Biennial 2023, an initiative of Terrain Exhibitions, founded in 2013 in Oak Park, Illinois by artist Sabina Ott. The biennial was created on a volunteer basis in the spirit of community building through free and accessible public art installations and events staged in residential neighborhoods across the US and worldwide. The Biennial relies on self-organizing, and I serve as the producer of Newburgh’s exhibition and point of contact (“superhost”) with the Chicagoland Terrain Biennial team.

The 2023 Terrain Biennial theme is Mycelium Connection to honor and expand Terrain’s mission to make unexpected, vital, human, and environmental connections. Mycelium is a thriving underground network of fungal threads, essential for many ecosystems. While its geographical reach is immense, mycelium is invisible to many. Likewise, Terrain Biennial is connected through neighborhoods around the globe and cultivates solidarity across differences. Both art and mycelium spring up in unexpected spaces and deserve to be shared with all.

This is the third time Newburgh is participating in the international exhibition and each year it grows and matures in new ways. This year, 25 host sites and 23 artists have been paired that align with each other and the year’s theme, and that are suitable, safe, and sound for outdoor installation. A suite of programs encourage community building amongst the participants, partner orgs, and local schools.</content>

    <title>Newcastle – Healing Groups</title>
<content type="html">Survivor Healing Groups are for groups of 12-15 victim-survivors that meet togetherly monthly and learn about ways to heal from a registered psychologist/or counsellor. What Were You Wearing's Survivor Healing Groups are conducted within a safe peer-support environment and are facilitated by two experienced professionals. The aim is to provide an open and safe space for survivors to come together and connect with others that have had similar experiences, and leave with gained knowledge and tools for healing and recovery.
Research shows that social support leads to many different positive outcomes for survivors of sexual violence. Generally, it can influence survivors by helping them to develop positive coping skills, thereby mitigating the negative effects of the trauma (Leech &amp; Littlefield, 2011).

Our short-term goals are:

Newcastle will finally have a sexual violence support group, which is essential to the wellbeing
and healing of victim-survivors that reside in Newcastle.
●Survivors will gain an increased sense of social connection
●Survivor will have a reduction in trauma, anxiety and symptoms of depression
●Survivors will start to rebuild trust, hope of recovery and experience empowerment.
●Survivors will gain various healing tools

Medium-term outcomes

●There will be a community of survivors that will be equipped with healing tools
●A strengthened community of survivors
●More awareness around sexual assault in Newcastle

Long term outcomes
Contributing to preventing sexual violence within Newcastle/Lake Macquarie. Survivors of sexual violence will always have a safe space and support group to go to. It will be funded by the government or council regularly to last long term.

<content type="html">The Pollinator Lab is a design research project investigating ways to put pollinator habitat back onto the lands of the Eora people.

We are a community led initiative run by a collective of landscape architects, academics, ecologist and biologists developing and testing alternative methodologies for creating habitat for pollinators in the built environment.

We have been researching how to implement a pollinator habitat corridor between Sydney Park and Centennial Park.

This has involved collaboration on the kinds of plants and habitat requirements of pollinators and how these need to be installed and maintained.

Our aim is to increase pollinator habitat as a means of increasing the ecoystem services of our built landscapes in a way that provides benefit to both human and non-human inhabitants of the city.</content>

<title>San Francisco, CA – Colusa Donation Based Garden Stand</title>
<content type="html">Hello!! I live in a small, rural and ag focused community. Our town is about 6,000 people with 25,000 in our county. Unemployment is high, migrant workers live in community housing, homelessness and food insecurity is a problem and many live in multigenerational homes in order to save money.

I am an avid gardener, but it’s only my kiddo and I at home. With the garden and hens, we make more food than we can use or preserve. That led me to the desire to build a garden stand on my property (I live in town but in the corner of one of the main streets/highway).

I have started the project by getting pallets donated by a local business and a local grocery store. I have purchased tools, have the plans and just need the finishing touches and to build.

I am a teacher and to me it’s important that I take care of our community, don’t waste food and show students that we are always learning and able to help others. I have members of the community excited to donate to the “take what you need, give what you can” stand.

Thank you for your consideration to help finish up this project and get it ready for our community!</content>
