Our mission is to help children build their home libraries, foster a love of reading, and improve literacy outcomes by providing evidence-based literacy programming and support, and gifting new and gently used books to children in Detroit.
Books are available in Spanish and English and are culturally sustaining, diverse, and inclusive. Since receiving a donation from The Awesome Foundation in May and our launch in June 2022 we have gifted 2616 books to 957 children in Detroit.
Our primary focus is on providing books and programming to children ages 5-14. Board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, and middle-grade books. We are intentional about ensuring that our books have BIPOC characters, celebrate diversity and inclusion, have neurodiverse and disabled characters, STEM-related themes, and are reflective of the communities we serve.
Birdie's Bookmobile is partnered with six DPSCD and Charter Schools in Detroit and eight organizations that are literacy and summer and out-of-school time program providers. We visit the schools and organizations once a month. We also attend summer camps and community events and have installed eight Little Free Libraries that we steward and curate.
Literacy rates in Detroit are 47% for adults and as low as 3.6% for third-grade reading in some zip codes. We are expanding our book titles at the request of high school students, families, and literacy organizations to provide YA titles for high school students ages 15-18 years old.

The aim of the exhibition is to offer the opportunity to view the world through my eyes: the eyes of an Autistic adult. The photographs are accompanied by written pieces that capture Moments in Autism - the highs, the lows, no filters. The photographs have been taken throughout Awabakal Land and all capture not only things that often go unnoticed, but also the hidden connections that exist in nature.
As an Autistic adult, it's important to me that my voice gets heard. Not for me, though. For Autistic kids, so they can know what their future might look like. For the carers and parents of Autistic kids, so that they can finally say they know an Autistic adult. For other Autistic adults, so that they have a chance to say "Me too!" and realise they're not all alone in this neurotypical world.
The exhibition is being held at Newcastle Music and Art Therapy in Warners Bay. I have been going there for several years, and have had other pieces on display there - pieces that have given kids the chance to point and say "That's what MY head feels like!". It makes sense to further those connections and conversations, to offer insight into the Autistic world in a place where neurotypicals and the neurodivergent come together.
The exhibition will be open to the public, after a private opening. It will run for approximately three weeks. It's my first solo exhibition, however I have been a part of previous exhibitions including Colour the Night (held by ACON) and the Dobell Festival. We aim to provide holistic artistic experiences and make them available and digestible for everyone. We work with a myriad of musical bands and artists from different genres. We want to decentralize the production and consumption of the arts by going outside of Cairo. Egypt is a very centralized country where most of the arts and cultural activities are mostly located in the metropolitan areas of Cairo and Alexandria. We want to take music concerts, art workshops and visual arts exhibitions outside of Cairo to reach different classes and different tribes and racial communities that are marginalized due to their geographies in Egypt, especially in upper Egypt, a historically disadvantaged region in Egypt.
Nubia, in the very south of Aswan, right along the border with Sudan is a historically disadvantaged area in the south of Egypt because of their dislocation from their lands in the 60s to build the infamous high dam in Egypt. Since the water flooded Nubians' homes, so few resources in terms of arts, arts education, culture, music and any related activities have ever reached there fully. One time, a young male told me that he has never attended a live concert.
We've partnered with Mashrou' Al Saada, which is a project that aims to develop Heissa island, Nubia by painting houses, building playgrounds for kids there, hosting storytelling and art workshops for kids, etc. They hosted the happy festival for people to come to help with these activities. We offered to host a music event during the festival for the participants and Nubians as well. The cheapest thing we could do is to host an electronic music event because it is only one artist (Walad). Nubians have never seen electronic music artists playing before. Eventually, they really enjoyed the music and asked for more events like this. There is a real need for more arts and cultural activities in these areas. Having said this, we were being funded for this program for the past 2 years but this year, our donors were unable to fund us and we do not have any support to continue. We receive numerous calls and messages from informers about the injured dogs being victims of hit-and-run cases, severe skin infections, abandoned due to getting some disease and many more. This program has helped in saving lives of many by getting timely treatment. Our mobile treatment team rushes to the spot and if the cases are critical and need a rescue, they are brought into our shelter. This program has helped in sensitizing community people about creating awareness about animal welfare and to have compassion towards animals.During our mobile treatment, when our team visits the location of the injured animals, we also distribute booklets and flyers about how to take care of community animals and about all the awareness related to welfare of animals. Many were unaware that if they harm animals, they will have to face punishments and about the animal welfare standards. This is one of our biggest achievements through our mobile treatment program, people have started taking care of animals and inform their nearby animal welfare organization if any animal is in need of help. Before, they used to turn a blind eye and leave the injured animal to die in the streets. As a result, the program has been halted and we are helpless at the moment. People who ask for help for the treatment of the injured animals, they see us in disappointment when we inform them that we no longer can help them due to insufficient funds and it is disheartening for us not being able to treat them. We are hopeful in getting a positive response and support from Awesome Foundation for our halted program where we can save lives on many innocent animals.Sneha ShresthaMobile Treatment Projecthttps://www.snehacare.org/mobile-treatment/WorldwideVeganhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/vegantag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2212862023-05-07T00:00:00Z2023-05-07T21:36:42ZNewburgh, NY – We Got You Girl, PERIODWe Got You Girl, PERIOD is a feminine product drive used to raise awareness about period poverty . Painters Listen Across DifferencesWhat’s Home? Creative Listening Across Differences is an exploration of our housing crisis in Santa Cruz County viewed through the lens of film and art. Artists can bring joy, empathy and mutual understanding right to the spots where hopelessness and division fester in the midst of our housing crisis.
The project began with ten artists each conversing with with a housed person and an unhoused person separately. Next, the artists each brought their two people together to explore questions like: What is home to you? What’s your story of home? How has our housing crisis affected you? What do you care about most for yourself and all people? These processes inspired a range of new visual and performance artwork. And all of these art making conversations were captured on video.
Then we connected Santa Cruz with Watsonville by inviting painters, Josefina Rocha and Carmen Leon to the project. They conversed and made art with an unhoused person, Jessie who is supported by Barrios Unidos and another unhoused person, Liz and her baby Luna who was supported by Pajaro Valley Shelter Services. This resulted in three new paintings and a rough cut documentary.
With this funding, we will pay for videography, editing and stipends for the participants, as well as adding Spanish subtitles to this final part of the film with Jessie, Liz and Luna as they meet with the artists and view these remarkable paintings that were inspired by their conversations.Andrew PurchinWhat's Home? While walking in my neighborhood early in the quarantine, I was struck by the abundance of trees, bearing edible fruit, but whose fruit was just falling to the ground. After passing a beautiful orange tree, I asked my neighbor to pick the oranges so I could donate them. I arranged with a local pantry to donate the fruit. When I brought the oranges to the pantry, the director said, “This fruit looks like it was picked with love." That is how the name, Food Picked with Love, emerged!
I could see first-hand how a little work could have such an impact in our community. One day, the pantry director said our oranges were the only fresh fruit that 120 households received that day. Hearing that inspired me to continue. I learned that one in five people in the Bay Area are food insecure. I arranged with the director to bring locally-picked food on a regular basis. Food Picked with Love started to bloom.
Over the months and now years, Food Picked with Love has grown to more cities. Partnering with local groups, like the Girl Scouts, we have been able to pick and donate over 5,000 pounds of fruit in one neighborhood alone! Food Picked with Love is helping to provide fresh fruit and food to those in need, while reducing waste that could contribute to climate change.
We have harvested many different types of fruit and foods: apples, lemons, oranges, pears, grapefruit, plums, snap peas, persimmons, even cactus fruit. (The cactus fruit was super fun, tasty… and a little prickly!)
I hope to expand Food Picked with Love to spread more awareness about food waste and food insecurity. I would like to make a difference in my community and beyond!

I train and support newly arrived and migrant women to share oral stories bilingually or multilingually. It encourages the sharing of cultural stories, cultural learning, it offers a safer space to talk about our similarities and differences, promotes maintenance of first languages at home and increases literacy. Importantly it assures and affirms women who arrive that they have the means to make money, they have a voice and people want to hear them.
These fabulous women have worked over years and now for the first time in 4 years the Sydney Storytelling Conference will happen. I want to take these fabulous socio-economically disadvantaged women and support their access and exposure to professional storytelling. Help their dreams grow bigger, help storytellers see what multilingual powerhouses are up and coming in our community and develop their networks.
For the Forked Tongue tellers this will inspire their understanding of where storytelling can take them. It can offer them a network of professional storytellers (from NSW, Australia and abroad) to inspire what stories they tell and how and lead to further performance opportunities. The conference is daunting for them as it is two days away from family - a difficult undertaking for those of a refugee background and it is entering an environment that is English language/culture dominated.
Adding women's voices from the margins and empowering them to speak up, feel confident and share stories. Old buildings are torn down, replaced with the latest and greatest new construction, and residents are displaced for wealthier tenants or homeowners who can afford the freshly gentrified locale. This leads to squandering or even destruction of existing community, culture, buildings, and land. We believe we can succeed with a better approach.
We are incremental developers, focused on the Monroe Park neighborhood of South Bend. We are enhancing the beauty and function of the neighborhood while honoring the history and preserving the culture that already exists. We do this by working with neighbors to identify needs and leveraging resources available in the community. We keep rents affordable and target solutions attuned to the local community’s needs.
Some may say our approach to development can’t be done profitably. We believe, however, that the efficiencies gained by working with the existing community and resources will make-up for additional costs or dampened revenue by taking our resident-driven and community-centered approach. We have validated this approach in residential projects and are now moving to our first commercial building.
We own the Monarch Printing Co building in the Monroe Park neighborhood which will be our flagship commercial space for our model of incremental development. We need funds to activate the storefront of this building, including enhancing the facade, and cleaning up the interior of the first floor to allow it to be leased.
The Monarch Printing Co. building is designated as a local historic landmark in South Bend. While it is in need of repair, it remains an excellent example of Neo-Classical style with many original features intact. We plan to restore the building, maintaining historic characteristics and charm, while adapting the use of the building to meet the needs of the surrounding community.Charity Stowe and Rachel MospanMonarch Printing Co. buildinghttps://www.instagram.com/herstoricdevelopment/United StatesSouth Bend, INhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/southbendtag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2175922023-05-01T00:00:00Z2023-05-02T15:08:10ZAwesome Without Borders – Yerbamala Art StudioYerbamala is a working studio for woman and non binary artists in the City of Ensenada, Baja California, México. We are located inside a car mechanic shop, and offer a space for members and invited residents to work on their own art projects. Currently we have been centered around textile arts and graphic techniques such as linocut, drypoint and chine collé.
We function as a collective, many of our members do not have a designated space for artistic practice in their homes and this is what we aim to provide. We currently have 10 permanent members, half of them are mothers and having a studio in their homes is just not a possibility for them. We also have a couple of recently out of art school members.
Our permanent members regularly teach embroidery, drawing and linocut and etching techniques for other groups of women at low or no cost.
We also curate and organize all woman and non binary artists art shows featuring our own art, but also, from artists all over México.
Yerbamala is a non profit collective, members or resident artists are not charged to use the space or to participate in our exhibitions.
In México, being a woman or a gender non conforming individual is very dangerous, and we believe that our existence and our art is resistance in itself. It uses art and storytelling to illustrate disabled peoples' experiences of sex, intimacy, (re)connection and survival. Disabled Parts also includes resources for anyone looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of disabled sexuality.
Uplifting disabled joy, healing, sexuality, and pleasure is one radical and necessary way to reclaim power and fight against ableism. The art and writing shared on Disabled Parts is about deepening our connection with our bodies, ourselves, and each other. This is especially important as we navigate the ongoing pandemic where we are surviving and resisting isolation and the crisis of care.
We also provide free sex toys, through partnership with toy shops and manufacturers. Disabled folks who are interested also have the option of a conversation with ck, to figure out what kind of toy would be best for them! For many disabled people, using toys is a way for us to have greater access to our bodies and to discover new avenues for pleasure. These tools can be assistive technology that we use to make it possible for us to access the sex and play that we dream of and deserve, but because of the cost, sex toys are often not accessible to disabled people who need them.
**What our grantee is saying:** "We are so excited to be able to use this money to pay more disabled writers and artists to contribute their experiences of sex and sexuality to the archive on disabled parts. it will be great to be able to use some of these funds to improve the accessibility of the website as well. thank you to the awesome foundation for uplifting the expansive beauty that is disabled sexuality!"
**What our trustees are saying:** "Sex and disability is still taboo, and I am really excited about the ways this project not only upends that falsehood, but also empowers actual people with disabilities to explore their own sexuality by having the opportunity to read others’ experiences and financial support to try toys. I was happy to see the money going to pay for disabled creators, and to expand access further with audio recordings of the text articles."

“We plan to present three whimsical faerie picnics this summer,” explains Rachel, “suitable for all ages and community members to attend. The acts will include aerial silks, lyra, and trapeze, as well as various flow and glow animations from a diverse group of faerie characters.”
“The audience will be invited to picnic in the surrounding park,” Rachel continues, “and enjoy the aerial show. We will also invite local costume groups, such as Steampunk Ottawa and Cosplay Meetups, to join us and use the opportunity to showcase their talents.”
“The participants will be both emerging and veteran local circus performers,” says Rachel, “including students from local aerial classes. We value our artistic skills, but would like to offer a free-to-attend model to engage the community and bring them a circus experience that is not always economically accessible. And performances like this not only provide entertainment for the audience, but creative opportunity and community to the performers as we share skills and perfect our acts.”

The event and exhibition will give local charities that support refugees and asylum seekers the opportunity to fundraise for their causes. If I we are granted funding for the exhibition, it will then be displayed following on from the event at the Culture Hub in Huyton Library for Huyton and Knowsley residents to attend.
The photography exhibition 'Tales of Culture' Refuge & Heritage' aims to celebrate and shine a light on the culture, heritage, and individuality of resettled people living in the Liverpool City Region who have come to the UK as refugees or asylum seeker.
The Knowsley Young Producers and I with the support of Knowsley Council have established relationships with The British Syrian Cultural Centre, The Liverpool Iranian Community Association, and the Sudanese Community Association - who's members will take part in the project.
Subjects will be anonymous and have their identity protected if this is their preference. As-well as the photographs the subjects/participants will be interviewed with light and positive questions such as
- How would you describe ‘home’ in 3 words?
- Is there any particular object, song, etc., that reminds you of home?
- Is there any tradition that passed over through generations in your family -
- What music do you like to listen to?
- Can you tell us about the music, art, and dance of your home country? -
- What are your favourite meals to cook or to eat?
There will also be a historical timeline that celebrates the cultural contributions of migrant and refugee communities to LCR and the UK.

In Fall 2022, 64.5% of the student body identified as female. Every student deserves the opportunity to pursue a high-quality education in an environment that promotes education and gender equity, and mental and emotional well-being. With such an overwhelming majority of students who identify as female, it is clear that there is a need to provide free menstrual products on campus. To address this issue and make the campus better, PTK honor students started a “Free Menstrual Product” program. The students hung “makeshift” dispensers, posted signage, and spread awareness on campus. One Honor Society student was (and still is) responsible for monitoring, refilling, and recording the data for one of the restrooms at least once a week for the entire semester. All of the products were and are purchased using the Honor Society chapter dues. As the recipient of a 2019 grant, I was able to help the students scale up the program, by purchasing seven one-touch dispensers. Additionally, students made and hung signs in the restrooms that do not have dispensers telling people which restrooms do. They collaborate with other student organizations, like the newspaper, Student Congress, FYE, etc. to spread awareness. Now seven restrooms, including one gender-neutral restroom, dispense free products via a one-touch machine. The restrooms were chosen in such a way as to start to cover the various areas of the campus. Although having a dispenser in every restroom on campus is ideal, our goal is to have a dispenser in enough restrooms that an individual who needs a product is no more than one building away from free products. To achieve this goal, five more restrooms require a menstrual product dispenser, which is the reason for this grant request.Julie RancilioFree Menstrual Products on Campus - KCCUnited StatesOahu, HIhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/oahutag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2144052023-04-27T00:00:00Z2023-04-28T02:39:07ZGloucester, MA – Student Racial Equity Team at GHSThe GHS Racial Equity team recently held an event at the high school, "Cultural Celebration Night". To date, Art on the Ave NYC has transformed 51 vacant retail spaces into gallery displays for local artists and has worked hard to create programming and gallery walks to get people out to see and buy the art. They work with public schools and camps to bring students to the exhibitions to see art and make art working side by side with artists who give back by spending time and sharing skills.
This summer, with the support of the NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) and the Washington Heights BID, Art on the Ave NYC will bring a three month exhibit to Washington Heights titled _The Rise: Art in the Heights_. Her company offers top quality entertainers, dressed as superheroes, princesses, and even Jedi masters. With a background as a Disney princess performer, Ashley demands a high level of quality from her staff, costumes, and props.
Taste entertainment would include:
5-6:00 Princess Ariel meet and greet in her own tent near the kid's zone. There will be coloring pages and other activities for the children waiting in line. Ariel will sign autographs and meet with each child individually. (Similar to a visit on Santa's lap.)
6-7:00 Spiderman meet and greet, similar to above.
7-8:00 Jedi Training: A Jedi master will take new child recruits through Jedi training - with prop uniforms and light saber drills. The event has a twist - a disturbance in the Force announces the arrival of Darth Vader! The new recruits get to practice their skills fighting "the big guy". Autographs and photo ops follow.

In a world where the voices of the marginalized are often silenced, this audio-visual journey is a beacon of hope. As the pandemic rages on and public resources dwindle, these women's stories find greater significance.
This documentary delves into the complex tapestry of factors that perpetuate gender-based violence in Mexico. From socio-economic disparities to environmental and political issues, the stories reveal a collective narrative of struggle and resilience. The project aims to shed light on the interplay of these factors, while also documenting the unique forms of resilience and coping mechanisms that these women have developed over time.
The current crisis in Mexico demands attention, and this project seeks to do just that. Over nine months, we will weave together the intricate stories of these nine women from diverse backgrounds. Through written ethnography, photography, and documentary film work, we will delve deep into their experiences, bringing to light the nuances and details that are often overlooked by mainstream media.
While this documentary focuses on Mexico, the themes it touches upon are universal. The socio-economic, cultural, and personal factors that fuel violence against women know no borders. As such, "Out of the Shadows" will inspire cross-cultural dialogue and raise awareness about these critical issues.
At its core, this project is a testament to the resilience of women in the face of adversity. Through their stories, we will gain insight into the struggles they have faced and the strategies they have employed to cope. These insights will inform recovery efforts, inspire collaboration, and direct future national and global crisis responses.

In an effort to dismantle systemic barriers to the performing arts for Deaf community members, we want to collaborate with Hands In Motion, a local agency that pairs organizations with ASL interpreters, to provide professional ASL interpretation for our Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons.
Beginning with our fall 2023 production of The Figs by local DC playwright, Doug Robinson, we would like to provide ASL interpretation for two matinee shows during every production's run. In addition to our fall production, we will also produce Amélie the musical in the winter 2024 followed by Is God Is by Aleshea Harris in spring 2024.
We will advertise these nights through contacts at Gallaudet University as well as through the #SigningEcosystem, a DC collective of Deaf-owned businesses.
Project Goals
As a result of these efforts to become more inclusive to the tens of thousands of
Deaf community members residing in DC, we hope to accomplish two measurable goals:
Increase the number of Deaf patrons we serve from zero to two hundred; and
Build a reputation in the District as a Deaf-friendly theatre as measured by inclusion in city guidebooks for the Deaf.
Providing ASL interpretation is one way that Constellation Theatre can make our Deaf and hard-of-hearing community members not only feel welcome, but feel celebrated. We would love to have you be a part of this initiative and to list our ASL productions as sponsored by The Awesome Foundation.

We are Bournville Rugby Football Club Women and have a ever growing team of 30+ women aged 16-45+. Training relentlessly each and every week through the pandemic and now twice a week with the aim of promotion next season. Women in sport often get overlooked and that is the case with rugby too. We are very much the after thought, out men's teams get expenses, fresh kits, great food, we are left funding ourselves and fighting for everything we have. We want to change that narrative and be able to give back to our girls and thank them for another successful season where we look to be finishing 3rd in our league.Jessica TurnerNew team kitUnited KingdomBirminghamhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/bhxtag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2133782023-04-20T00:00:00Z2023-05-09T09:07:50ZBirmingham – Street Futures women and girls cricket We are a community interest company based in Birmingham run by young BAME individuals who have overcome living in inner city communities to be successful in life. One of those challenges is changing perceptions of allowing women and girls to take part in sport and after years of trying we have finally managed to get 20+ regular BAME females taking part in cricket. Recently we ran an outdoor cricket league despite weather deteriorating as well as light we managed to get the league complete. To continue supporting the group we are now delivering weekly cricket sessions and have linked them onto an amateur sports club in the form of marston green cricket club.
However one of the barriers is travel cost to get the women and girl to the club as parents are either working or unable to drive. Due to the cost of living most girls don’t have their own equipment or a bat atleast and that is something we want to be able to support with as well using this grant. Alongside the above, needing a female cricket coach is a must for cultural and general reasons for the girls and we could do with some of the funding to help cover those costs. We have provided team kits to half the girls but the other half are still waiting on kits/uniform, so the funding is also to be used to cover costs. The name itself is inspired by the 786 phone code which was created after all 305 phone numbers were occupied. Thus, the 786 code in the title of this festival represents a new generation of artists and filmmakers that are trying to make a career out of their craft. With this event we hope to create a unique space for locals of all levels of accomplishment to showcase their work publicly and be recognized for future opportunities. Public displays are not as common of an opportunity for video format creators as it is for other visual arts mediums. There is also a greater barrier for entry within the film industry than other creative industries because of the difficulty to get new eyes on your work and greater need for funding. Not only do we want our finalists to feel recognized, but we want to forge transformative career development opportunities by partnering with other community figures to build their connections and resources.Samantha Herrera786 Film Festivalhttp://instagram.com/omegaspitUnited StatesMiami, FLhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/miamitag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2195382023-04-20T00:00:00Z2023-05-03T18:24:41ZKingston – Indigenous Art The Jay Bell Redbird Indigenous Arts Pavilion at Artfest Kingston showcases professional and aspiring Indigenous artists. (CBOB) with the aim of providing sensible and accurate health information in a culturally sensitive manner to the Hispanic community. The recently published Alachua County Health Equity Plan for July 2022 — June 2027 highlights many disparities faced by Latinos relating to specific health conditions, as well as a disproportionate distribution of health services such as hospitals, clinics, physicians, and emergency care facilities. This report reveals how the Latino community in Alachua County maintains the highest uninsured rates compared to white and black residents, leaving them vulnerable to serious injury, illness, and medical debt. With this research in mind, we hope to provide the Hispanic community with reliable health information from Spanish-speaking expert sources to address the severe health disparities faced by this community locally and abroad. Through the existing network of interns, academic professionals, and community partners, the Café CBOB podcast team will consist of a group of internal and external volunteers. With the assistance of the Awesomeness Foundation, we hope that the Café CBOB Health Education Podcast is a step in the right direction to improve health education in the Latino community and battle health disparities in Alachua county. The play centers around a conversation between an interracial couple, after the wife, who is the person of color in the relationship, returns home from protests. The couple is challenged as individuals by a host of characters represented by an on stage "T.V.", that attempt to pull each of them to different sides of a culture war. The play was developed along with the actors, Soyal Smalls-Moore, Sui the Producer, William Derieux, and Andres San Millan. This is a new project that will be ongoing to serve my community by trying to restore a vacant city lot that sits at the corner of my street on Winslow Ave in East Buffalo. We are a newly formed community organization, the Winslow Ave F/K Block Club is ready to set a trend that transformation of beauty can happen in any neighborhood no matter how it is labeled by others. And after 25 years of looking and sitting in this bleak and destitute neighborhood, we as a community is ready for change.
I envision for my community having an educational community garden that would help build unity among the young and the older generation. This project will be ongoing to serve the community so starting with Phase I – at the corner of my street Winslow/Fillmore, I want to define that corner with landscape shrubberies, adding our organization sign on the lot and our hands of unity sign sitting within the shrubbery design. I would like to incorporate historical literature and pictures of landmark buildings forgotten to be displayed in weather resistant individual casing and place throughout the history garden. I would also like to have the youth design three separate small murals to represent our neighborhood and use solar lights around the garden to better show case the garden display and to light the area for any unwanted criminal activities. From my landscape plan attached, you would see that we would be in a need of the following to help create such a beautiful layout.

With a focus in education, service, and networking, we exist to collaborate with minority nursing professionals in the hopes of transforming healthcare for all residents in Pittsburgh.
For summer 2023, our organization will provide free health screenings/exams and supplies to 100 individuals in need throughout the city. We wish to specifically focus on the homeless population in addition to individuals in five strategic neighborhoods throughout the city. A basic assessment will be completed which includes blood pressure screenings, an overall health assessment including vitals, and distribution of a small care package that contains products such as hygiene supplies, information leaflets, feminine products, and first aid materials.
Teams of 10+ minority nurses and nursing students will split up across the city on a weekend afternoon to provide the services and take care of the distribution of supplies. To transform our communities, we have to do the work in our communities. Those we serve may not be eager to make an appointment to receive simple health checks, so we as professionals are deciding to bring it to them.

We will partner with Urban Peak, another Denver-based nonprofit that works with youth who are experiencing homelessness or have experienced homeless.
We transport the students in our 14-passenger bus to private land in Bailey, Colorado that we have a partnership with. Here, we will spend 2 nights. The first night we will set up camp, learning how to pitch tents, work camp stoves, filter water, and properly store food. The next day, we will spend paddling at a local reservoir. The students can choose from canoes or kayaks, learn various paddle strokes, parts of boats, and get to go paddling (often for their first time). The third day, we will go rock climbing at a local crag. Students will learn about climbing equipment, how to tie a figure 8 knot, and climbing techniques, and then go climbing. We will return to Denver that evening.
Through this overnight, our students will get to try new activities as well as gain social-emotional skills such as communication, self-efficacy, and confidence that will help them navigate daily life. They will learn how to communicate with others get better at naming emotions as they experience new activities and new places. We hope that this overnight is both a fun and action-filled experience as well as a way for students to grow and be able to better navigate life. Brunswick Neighbourhood House (BNH) is a not-for-profit that provides services to the local people of Brunswick. We are currently planning the roll-out of our first STEM Homework Club, a program that will cater to students in years 10-12 studying who are struggling with maths and science subjects.
Evidence shows that high-quality homework clubs can be highly influential in helping students at risk of disengaging from education. Not only do they provide education support, but also help develop students’ confidence, cultivate social connections and improve overall well-being.
We would absolutely love to bring our homework club up a notch of ‘awesomeness’ by incorporating something students love- FOOD! More specifically, highly nutritious Lebanese food from the infamous A1 Bakery. A1 makes high-quality, nutrient-packed and very reasonably priced food, and is only a 3-minute walk from BNH-making it a perfect contender to be our vendor. By being able to provide delicious food (that is also nutritious and can cater to many dietary requirements) we hope to encourage a high attendance and engagement rate. We also hope that it helps to foster a warm and inviting environment, where students know we care for them and their overall well-being. Additionally, we will spend the money to buy science and math-specific online programs, such as Brilliant and Mathletics, as well as other math and science equipment (calculators and a chemistry molecular model set).

The goal of this project is to help kids in the F-M area find resources and guidance that will help them excel in the soccer field and off the field. The goal is to have a 1 on 1 mentoring program where we can build relationships with the children and help them tackle problems or road blocks they face. it is also our mission to help children in this project find resources that will help them reach their goals in life. We want to start a summer program that will help kids prepare for their high school year and build a relationship with the children. We also want to make this a project that is all year long to help children with tutoring and improving themselves in the classroom.

Each year American Indian Magnet School on St.Paul’s Eastside hosts a PowWow to celebrate its students and faculty with traditional Native American Indian festivities. We chose this project because of its goal of bringing our community together.
According to Teacher Julie Hutcheson-Downwind, The American Indian Magnet School in St. Paul focuses on teaching all students through an American Indian cultural lens. In addition to academics and Indigenous languages, students also learn about drumming and dancing. At the end of the school year, the school hosts a powwow for students, their families, the staff, and the public.
Our school is located on the Eastside of St. Paul in Dayton's Bluff neighborhood. It is currently in its 32nd school year and has hosted a powwow each year. It is usually attended by 500-800 people in addition to the 500+ students and staff.
Our students learn about the history and culture of Indigenous people mainly the Ojibwe and Dakota, the prominent tribes in Minnesota. Every Friday students gather together as a school and participate in a drum and dance gathering to celebrate the end of a learning week. Students learn many dance steps and learn about Indigenous dance regalia. Those who wish are also instructed and participate in our school drum group.
Our school powwow is traditionally held in mid-June at the end of the school year. It is a one-day event. We invite families and the public to join us for dancing and celebrating. We also provide a meal and an honorarium for invited dancers and community drum groups.
Sadly, we are not able to use instructional funds for this event. Honorariums are different than contracted services and food is not allowed to be purchased with instructional funds. We ask for donations in order to put on this event each year.
It is very important to our school to be able to provide this cultural celebration at the end of the school year. We also honor our 8th-grade students who will be moving to high school, our students with outstanding attendance, and our teachers who have reached 25 years of service to AIMS. It is truly a community event attended by many families and community members year after year.Julie Hutcheeson-DownwindCommunity PowWowhttp://www.spps.org/aimsUnited StatesSt. Paul, MNhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/stpaultag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2171322023-04-12T00:00:00Z2023-05-08T09:57:34ZRotterdam – Waterstromen: Hoe zit dat? (How does it work?)As part of a series of workshops about climate adaptation we would like to create an interactive construction and educational activity about water awareness. In a neighbourhood in Rotterdam we started a project called Buurtklimaatje that’s all about water and green in the city. The goal is to create more awareness for climate adaptation and help residents to create a more green and resilient neighbourhood. Archiklas organises activities for children every Friday afternoon to contribute to their knowledge about green and water an make them enthusiastic about it. We purified water, we did research on the soil in Carnisse, we build shadow screens helping against heat stress, we made booklets about the journey of a waterdrop. We sowed seeds for plants and herbs and this Friday we’re going to allocated places for new trees to grow. The interactive construction we would like to make will allow children to experiment with water flows and discover how they can block water. This refers to the Dutch water system with dykes, water pump stations and the need to keep water in certain areas for a longer time due to climate change. Groups of 20 - 100 volunteers join us for neighborhood improvement projects in this blighted impoverished area of Detroit where we are building affordable housing. There is a tremendous amount of vacant land in this neighborhood. By clearing overgrowth, dead trees, and trash the living environment for our residents is automatically improved. We have relied on borrowing equipment that is not always adequate for our tasks. With this grant we would purchase tools (loppers and saws) that volunteers will use throughout the year in improvement projects. We not only research & interpret these effects with own students — we also get our hands dirty sustainably rebuilding what was once lost. Before SSW built the gardens at History San Jose, it was filled with non-native plants & largely absent of pollinators. We wanted to learn about the history of the habitat, so we turned to locals who had lived through San Jose’s changes. One thing that kept coming up was that a once-large population of monarch butterflies & bees had vanished. To see if we could lure them back, an Eagle Scout built test beds. Our students filled the beds with native plants. Soon the bees & butterflies returned. Unexpectedly, they also saw a rise in passive pollinators like lizards, which has the added benefit of controlling garden pests.
Thirteen years later, History San Jose is now a refuge for pollinators & people. We were allotted more land & with the help of over a thousand volunteers from NVIDIA Foundation, the lawns were transformed into an urban garden & an outdoor science lab.
Our gardens have been an opportunity to help the underserved neighborhoods surrounding History Park. These neighborhoods were hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Food security became a huge issue, so it was vital to have a way to get fresh food & have outdoor space to enjoy.
It’s wonderful seeing the gardens’ influence continue to ripple. Through our partnership with Sacred Heart Services we have shared the importance of native plants & pollinators with our students, community garden families, & Park visitors. We added some fairy houses that engage little ones to look closely at the plants & spark conversation between visitors & gardeners. They take the lessons they learn back to their homes, spreading support for pollinators across our community. By supporting our project you are not just funding the purchase of plants & soil, you are also supporting a community of people, animals & plantsbelinda lowe-schmahlPollination Partnershttp://www.schmahlscience.orgUnited StatesSan Jose, CAhttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/sanjosetag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2175812023-04-07T00:00:00Z2023-04-07T20:37:36ZAustin, TX – Touch the Art: An Interactive Art ExhibitionAustin's go-to guide for art, Almost Real Things, is collaborating with the art students from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and a group of professional Austin artists working with unique textures and mediums to create this one-of-a-kind experience. The story is about a little boy who has moved to Newcastle with his family. Over the 7 days of the week the boy visits some of the iconic landmarks and places of Newcastle. Through simple rhyme and eye-catching illustrations, the boy tells the tale of his weeks' adventure (which I know many locals will relate to) and falls in love with the city of Newcastle; declaring it the only place he wants to live.
I am aware of the importance of children having text-to-self connections when reading, as well as connecting the text to the world around them. 'I Live Here - Newcastle' provides local families with the opportunity to do this. It will engage the audience through real-life connections, evoke conversation and perhaps even intrigue those further afield to visit... Why not? It's almost a 7-day Newcastle travel itinerary for families.
I have researched the History of Newcastle and included dual names for locations (eg. Newcastle – Mulubinba and Nobby’s – Whibayganba) to help educate and bring these Awabakal words into everyday language. There is also mention of the Christ Church Cathedral dominating the skyline and the significance of Joe Richley for Blackbutt Reserve, as well as other significant points of interest.
I have spent countless hours, every day with my children exploring this incredible city of ours. I have captured many photographs of the various places we regularly visit and used these images to brief the illustrator, so my vision (and the real Newcastle) could come to life on the pages of a children's picture book.

I want to run a similar event again to hand out free 500 lightsabers to Children and Children at heart to battle in Tumbalong Park. Each person will get to take their lightsaber home at the end of the day, and have good memories of their Duel of Fates.
I will also try and contact Guiness World Records about setting the record for largest lightsaber battle in the Southern Hemisphere. I will set the record unofficially if they ask for a fee.
I will do this on a Saturday, when Darling Quarter has a lot of foot traffic and fireworks on. This will brighten the landscape of Sydney for a day, and give a lot of children happiness and glee. Working with a cast of disabled and non-disabled performance artists, DJs, ASL interpreters and Audio Describers, this installation will transform San Francisco’s Counterpuls into an environment where multiple forms of access intersect to conjure a new blueprint for what a club space can be.
As the audience enters the venue, they are greeted with several different ways to engage with the space. In the main theater, music from a live DJ is simultaneously described on projectors for the D/deaf community. ASL interpreters translate lyrics alongside go-go dancers and performers with diverse disabilities, while an MC audio-describes movement in headphones for blind audiences. A chill-out space on the lower level invites those with neurodiverse experiences to unwind, lie down and/or stim in a sensorily welcoming environment. Multiple forms of seating are placed throughout the venue, including day-beds for reclined dancing. This event will require proof of vaccination and masks for Covid safety, with masks available for those who don’t have them at the door.
As an artist with a physical impairment, many queer nightlife spaces in the Bay Area have been difficult to access for a multitude of reasons. Instead of waiting for a space to provide the accommodations that I need, I feel compelled to create an environment where myself and my community can truly thrive.
As these various offerings for access and artistry live together in the space, how can we make sure that they don’t interfere with the various accommodations they provide? How can access be both a tool for equity as well as an intentional aesthetic choice? I look forward to exploring these questions with care, humility and a commitment to learning alongside the Bay Area’s rich disability arts community.

Founded in 2016 by composers Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid, Luna Lab provides mentorship and resources for young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers. Luna Lab aims to achieve a broad, lasting, and positive impact in the field of music by empowering and emboldening the next generation of musicians and creative leaders.
Luna Composition Lab’s signature program—the Luna Lab Fellowship—offers six young composers one-on-one mentorship with acclaimed professional composers annually. Mentors guide fellows in the composition of a new piece of music that is premiered by a professional ensemble as part of a weeklong festival in New York City. This festival includes professional development activities, masterclasses with inspirational figures, networking events, and more.
In addition, Luna Composition Lab offers a series of group composition courses—Adventures in Sound—that support young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming musicians who are interested in creating their own music. From notation and music theory to applied and hands-on compositional practices, students come away with a renewed sense of the possibilities for what composition can be.
Luna Composition Lab continues to see the tangible, long-term results of its important work. Alumni of the fellowship program have gone on to receive national awards, attend the nation’s top colleges and conservatories, and have been commissioned by renowned chamber ensembles and orchestras. 75% of the program’s alumni in college are studying composition, and 100% are involved in music. In the 2022–2023 season, 100% of alumni of the fellowship program have been offered professional commissions.Luna Composition LabLuna Composition Lab Fellowshiphttp://www.lunacompositionlab.orgWorldwideAwesome Without Bordershttps://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/chapters/awesomewithoutborderstag:www.awesomefoundation.org,2005:Project/2154992023-04-03T00:00:00Z2023-04-03T21:24:23ZSanta Cruz, CA – ConcurrentA four part experimental short film about the simultaneous existence of opposing phenomena at the intersection of female sexuality, spirituality, surfing, and creativity.
