Freeville Community Garden

We are breaking ground on a community garden in the heart of the Village of Freeville that will connect the elementary school, local food pantry, and a range of diverse residents by growing food together. Tucked into the bend of Fall Creek, this space was historically home to a truck farm and is currently a small playground with two baseball fields. There is still ample space for other activities here and a community garden will be a great fit. We are starting small - a 50'x50' fenced in garden with 10'x10' individual plots. There are a number of master gardeners in this small community, but many homes in the area do not have the sun-exposure for a kitchen garden or the money to invest in a necessary fence to keep out the deer and other critters who are also interested in sharing the bounty of the harvest. We have a unique opportunity to partner with both an elementary school that has a high percentage of children from low-income families as well as a food pantry that distributes groceries to those in need twice a month.
